I finally gave birth the 4th January 2012 (1 week over due time) to a wonderful boy!
I used the Elle Tens from the outset, with the help of my husband who placed the electrodes for me!
After having used it for more than 1 hour, I wasn’t sure that it was really working, but once I took it off, I realised that Elle tens was helping a lot!!!!
Having tried the machine myself, I am confident to market this product in Denmark and to recommend it to other mothers to be.

If you have already had a child and had the privilege of using a TENS machine then you need not read further. If this is your first time using a TENS machine then you won’t know how it works and how the different options feel.
“Many studies have revealed that a sense of control is a major contributing factor to a woman’s birth experience and her subsequent well-being.” PubMed, 2003.
It has been discovered that women who feel more in control in labour are calmer, less tense and therefore more comfortable. A TENS machine is a precious unit that can instill a real sense of control and calm yet if one doesn’t know how to use it before labour, some of it’s advantages can be masked.
We therefore recommend to try out your TENS machine before use. One must not use it on the back but can try it on the forearm and get a very good feel for the different pulse sensations and an overall satisfying grasp of their TENS. All one needs to do is place the electrodes on their forearm as opposed to their back, read the instructions manual and start getting familiar. We suggest people buy two packs of electrodes, one for practise and one for the big day.
If you have done this before and felt this experience or article was helpful, please feel free to comment.

Our Femme TENS machine is for the lady who likes to be in control but prefers analogue to digital. It doesn’t have as many options as the Elle TENS machine but still has a large intensity range, boost button and the ability to affect one pair of pads and not the other.
For those who find dials quicker to use and more effective, this TENS machine is for them. There are two dials which adjust the speed and depth of the pulses and a removable boost button if you find that you don’t require it during the early stages of labour. If you know that your gown will have a belt this has a belt clip so will be fully suitable.

Suiting things to your personality seems all the rage these days.
Psychometric tests indicate what careers you’re destined for, Facebook and Google are crammed with quizzes and tests demonstrating ‘What is your perfect pet?’, ‘What type of friends should you socialise with?’, ‘Which car will suit you most?’, ‘Which plant will suit you least?’…the list goes on. However, I have not yet found a personality test for pregnant women! Why should they reap different results I hear you cry?…Oh didn’t you know women totally change as soon as they get pregnant?…Just ask their other halves!…Ok, so not everyone totally changes but on a more serious note, it is true that pregnant women do require a few alternative things to what they did before – different clothes, different foods, different ways of relaxing, each different for each woman. One thing on a pregnant woman’s mind is her choice of pain relief in labour and childbirth. Many women choose to use a Babycare TENS machine. The question is which one do you choose?
As you have probably seen on our Babycare TENS website we have a selection of TENS machine for labour and childbirth to hire and buy. They are the Obi TENS, Femme TENS, Lady TENS and Elle TENS, all effective but all slightly different to suit the different needs of our clientele. Here are some suggestions as to what in each are likely to suit whom.

You’ve just done the pregnancy test, it’s face down in your hand whilst you and your spouse/partner count the minutes before turning it over…5, 4, 3, 2, 1 go! You flick it over and there they both are, two lines, as clear as day…you’re pregnant! There is excitement and nerves, cuddles and kisses and already talk about names. The days tick on and the emotions settle with the familiarity of the news but the physical effects begin to kick in…one being nausea. Some don’t suffer from sickness at all, some get it mildly and some are hit with it hard. There are not so many things to ease sickness but acupressure and eating something in the morning that will raise the lowered sugar levels have found to be effective.
Acupressure is pressure most commonly applied by the index finger and the thumb to specific areas of the body called acupoints, which, when stimulated, can decrease a sensation such as pain or ease discomfort.
Here are a couple of points to try out specifically for nausea, each done for 1-2 minutes (should be an aching sensation after the first few seconds):
- Point 1 can be found in that webby bit of skin between the big toe and second toe.
- Point 2 is found on the inner central part of the wrist (you have probably seen those sea/air sickness bands that are worn here)
If you can get someone else to do these to you, even better but certainly not a requirement.
Enjoy and let us know how they go or if any other acupoints have worked for you for nausea.

Once again that little voice in your head is piping up “Go on just one more cigarette, what’s just one more going to do?” and “I’m sure a couple of glasses of wine each night won’t make a difference!”…
It is a known fact that nicotine, other drugs and alcohol are not recommended during pregnancy due to the potential effects they can have on the fetus and newborn baby.
It’s not so easy however, to stop a cycle that one has been used to for some time. There are many ways to ease you off a dependency, at least for those nine precious months, and we suggest you try anything that sounds good to you.
We know that Acupressure can often be a good complimentary treatment to whatever else you are doing and best of all it’s free!
